The Financial Markets Forum (FODEMAF) organized by COSUMAF (the CEMAC Financial Markets Commission) and the state of Equatorial Guinea took place in the capital city Malabo from the 24th to the 25th of February 2016. The forum organizers sought to and succeeded in bringing together financial market actors, academics, political stakeholders and other important participants to review a COSUMAF commissioned report prepared by the French consulting firm Roland Berger. The report was used as a yard stick to assess the health of the CEMAC Financial Markets and a springboard to coordinate workshops on ways to better animate the young financial market. The forum was very well organized but its success lies in the strict and religious implementation of the recommendations made by the panelist and participants. The most important recommendation on which all the others are hinged is the rigorous education of experts in the different sectors of the market and the general population. Without this base, there can be no real financial market in the CEMAC region.
